Dear Parents,

Your son or daughter has done it!  They have worked through twelve years of hard work, sweat and tears to reach the moment when they walk across the stage and receive their diploma. As they walk across the stage, you see that little girl or little boy who held your hand to cross the street just a few days ago.

Not only do you reflect back on the days of raising your child but you look ahead and dream of what your now young adult will be in life. Yes, admit it. You have your set of goals, dreams and hopes for your graduate. But, they have hopes and dreams of their very own. As the tassel is turned, the cake is cut and the celebrations come and go, it is important to remember  that God created your graduate and has his own set of dreams and plans for him or her.

Today, your graduate steps into a new phase in his or her life. You also step into a new phase and role in your young adult’s life. It is in this phase of life where I encourage you as a parent to listen with open ears and heart to their hopes and dreams. It is important that you encourage them and respect them for who they are and who they are to become. But, the most important thing you can do for your graduate is to place them in the hands of their Father. For it is the Father in Heaven who has his ultimate plan for their future.

You have raised your child. He or she is now a young adult. It is time to allow them to “Dream On.”

Blessings and God Speed to all the graduates and their families.
