Well, we have first completed our first full week of the New Year. In this first full week, we have been daunted by the diet commercials, the special nutrition segments on talk shows and have even said to ourselves that we need to take heed in what is being told to us. Yet, how many of us actually follow through with watching our diets and what we eat? I am sure as the first full week of the new year comes to an end, vows of watching our diet are out the door. As a matter of fact, I write this with a Coca Cola in hand and just wolfed down a cranberry muffin as I walked through the kitchen.
This afternoon, as I jetted home from errands, I passed the Baptist church that is on my route. On their sign, they usually have an upcoming event posted or sometimes a quote that can hit home. Today, there was the quote. The quote said something like this; “We are what we feed our minds.” Not too different from “you are what you eat.” Of course, as soon as I saw this quote, my brain said instantly; “there is a blog in that quote.”
Just as it is best for us to eat a healthy diet, it is good that we feed our minds with good things. Ever heard “garbage in; garbage out?” As the new year begins, let’s all be mindful of what we read, what we view on television, or at the movies, and the types of music we listen to. Believe it or not, what we feed our minds comes out in our attitude towards life, others and ourselves. After all, what we feed our minds nurtures our hearts because “out of the heart the mouth speaks”(Luke 6:45)
